ANDRE TINIO

Andre Tinio (He/Him) was born in Wainwright, Alberta and his family was one of the first to move there from the Philippines. He later moved to Edmonton to pursue post-secondary education and completed a degree in Sociology with a Community Service Learning certificate at the University of Alberta, and later obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary. He recently completed Centennial College’s Leadership and Inclusion Certificate Program.

As a registered social worker, he currently provides professional practice support and ethical consultation for registrants of the Alberta College of Social Workers. He is also the lead staff member for the Continuing Competency Program that all registrants must complete each year. He believes that continued education and meaningful professional development is imperative to hold practitioners accountable to their professional and ethical practice.

Additionally, Andre provides anti-racism facilitation, project management, and consultation support to the City of Edmonton (CoE). He was the chair for the Anti-Racism Advisory Panel where he led the group in developing recommendations to the CoE in creating an independent anti-racism body within Edmonton. He also served on the CoE’s Community Safety and Well-being Task Force that developed recommendations to address racism, discrimination, excessive use of force, poverty and homelessness based on trends, best practices, and change models from across Canada.

Andre is a proponent for volunteering and giving back to the community. He previously volunteered with the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre and was trained in first contact support with families, crises management, and court preparation. He also provided external practicum supervision to social work students and supported Zebra’s diversity committee. Currently, Andre is a board member with enCompass Community Safety Agency (previously known as Edmonton John Howard Society).

Andre is a proud inclusive leader and a champion for equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in all spaces.
